Privacy Policy
The Blind Traveler is built to work without an account. This policy explains what the app collects, why, where it goes, and what you can do about it.
Summary
- No sign-up, no name, no email address, and no advertising.
- The app uses Bluetooth and Location to find beacons and guide you. Location and beacon data are used on your phone to do that.
- The app sends usage events and basic device details to our server, so we can find and fix problems.
- When you use a generated voice, the text the app speaks is sent to our server, which asks a speech service to create the audio.
Information the app uses on your device
- Location. Used to guide you indoors and at venues, and to make location-based announcements. The app asks for permission first. Location is not sold or used for advertising.
- Bluetooth. Used to detect nearby beacons and measure how far away they are.
- Motion. Used to tell when you are walking, so distance readings stay steady while you stand still.
- Settings and voice files. Your choices, such as language, voice, and fine-tuning values, are stored on your phone. Generated voice files are cached on your phone so they can play again without a new request.
Information sent to our server
The app sends usage events to our server (audiopaths.com) so we can understand how the app is working and find faults. Each event batch can include:
- A random install ID, created when you first open the app. It is not tied to your Apple ID or your name.
- A random session ID, created each time the app starts.
- App version and build number, iOS version, iPhone model, language and region settings, time zone, and screen size.
- Events about what you did in the app, such as opening a scenario, changing a setting, starting or stopping beacon tracking, or a speech request succeeding or failing.
- Beacon presence events, which record that a beacon was detected.
- Your IP address and the browser identifier that the app's network requests send. Our server receives these as part of any web request, and we store them with the events.
Voice and speech
When the app uses a generated voice, it sends the text to speak, the voice choice, and a request key to our speech service on audiopaths.com. That service asks ElevenLabs to create the audio and returns it to your phone. The app keeps the audio on your phone so it does not need to be requested again. If the service is not available, the app speaks with your phone's built-in voice instead.
What we do not do
- We do not sell your information.
- We do not use your information for advertising or tracking across other apps and websites.
- We do not ask for your name, email address, phone number, or contacts.
- We do not read your photos, files, or messages.
How long we keep it
Usage events and the server records that come with them are kept only for as long as needed to find and fix problems. Data stored only on your phone is removed when you delete the app.
Your choices
- Turn off Location, Bluetooth, or Motion for the app at any time in your iPhone's Settings.
- Use the built-in voice instead of the generated voice in the app's voice settings. This stops speech text being sent to our speech service.
- Delete the app to remove everything stored on your phone.
- Ask us to delete records we hold, by emailing support@audiopaths.com. See the support page for what to include.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. If the change is significant, we will say so in the app's update notes.
